Say No To Tanning Beds

Hi Friends!

I hope everyone is had a great Wednesday! Tonight I wanted to address the dangers of tanning beds and my own experience with a skin cancer scare.

When I was in high school and into my early twenties, I loved using tanning beds. I’m actually guilty of working at two different tanning salons. I know… so horrible. In my defense, I really didn’t understand the damage the beds were doing to my skin until a mysteriously dark freckle appeared on my right temple. I honestly thought nothing of it until I went to my doctor for my yearly checkup. She advised me to see a dermatologist because she thought it looked like skin cancer. I was in shock and a little scarred but knew I had to take her advice.

I scheduled my appointment and the doctor removed the dark spot from my face. Fast forward a week and she told me it was pre melanoma and that I needed to remove the surrounding skin to be safe. I saw a plastic surgeon and he performed the procedure to reduce the amount of scarring on my face. The results came back and he had removed all of the abnormal cells.

This whole experience made me realize I needed to take better care of my skin. I was only 22 when this happened and didn’t want to risk my life anymore for tan skin. Please stay away from tanning beds and wear your sunscreen.

Love and happiness,

Amber
